I am very happy to learn that three of my images (one tri-color gum; one platinum over pigment; and one gum over platinum) have been selected for Alternatives 2014, a biennial exhibition that will open July 16- at the beginning of their new semester- at the Edith Gallery of Whanganui UCOL (Universal College of Learning), in Whanganui, New Zealand.  Rita Dibert, head of their Quay School of Fine Arts, put this exhibition together.

I wish I could be there!   Hopefully, I'll be receiving some installation photos and will post those after the July 16 opening.

Rfotofolio Feature!

I am so excited to have my work featured on the Rfotofolio.org website.  Rfotofolio is an amazing online curated gallery space for fine art photography.  Such a beautifully designed site, so informative, and so thoughtfully done.  I'm honored that they chose to feature my work.  Their interview questions were inspired..  I hope you enjoy it!

Artist in Residence

I spent this past week as the Artist-in-Residence at Ravenscroft School, an impressive K-12 private school situated on a beautiful 125-acre campus, located in Northeast Raleigh.  I worked with Upper School Art Instructor and artist, Joyce Fillip, teaching her two high school photography classes the historic gum bichromate printing process.

We had a lot of fun, and the students were so willing to learn, so interested in everything-- and so much fun-- full of energy-- and very welcoming to me.  So thanks to them, they made it all seem way too easy.

All in the Family

My daughter, Annalee, has not only been the subject, for many years, of my Figurative work, she has been my muse and a tireless collaborator.  Now, as it turns out, she's also amazing behind the camera!  Although not currently a photographer by profession, it would appear she has that career just waiting for her, too.

So check out these lyrically beautiful images she made on a recent Sunday morning along the train tracks in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

She made all these stylish images for Alden Wicker's blog, Ecocult, for a news item about the NYC-based clothing line, Linie.   Read below, and click on the link to read the rest of the article and see these inspiring images.

Another great gum bichromate workshop!

Since the renovation and building of my studio space, which I love-- sitting right in my own back yard, 22 steps from house to studio door-- I've been teaching private workshops on some of the printing techniques I frequently use.

So this past Saturday, a good friend of mine and fellow photographer, Elizabeth Galecke who also lives and works in Raleigh, had asked if I would teach her and her young mentee, Rae, the gum bichromate printing process.  I was a little worried about teaching this process to an 11-year old, mainly for safety reasons, but no worries there.  (If you consistently wear gloves, don't get sloppy, and have a healthy respect for all chemicals, you'll be okay.)  Both Elizabeth and Rae-- such tireless and enthusiastic troopers they are --made some lovely and impressive prints, which just confirms what I've always thought-- that no matter what printing process you use, you need interesting and compelling images to start.  And they did.

We had such a good time, and I was amazed at how much they got done.  I love seeing people get excited about this process and to experience first-hand just a little of the seemingly infinite creative and interpretive possibilities gum offers.

So thanks to both for making this such a fun day!  I can't wait to see what they do with the process from here on out!  See more on Elizabeth's own blog post about the workshop!

Rocky Mount's 57th National Multi-Media Juried Art Exhibition

Between Howard & Church Streets, Rocky Mount, NC  ©Diana H. Bloomfield 2014

This week I dropped off two of my tri-color gum prints that were accepted into Rocky Mount's 57th National Multi-Media Juried Art Show, to be held at The Imperial Centre, at the Maria V. Howard Arts Center, in downtown Rocky Mount, NC.  The exhibit runs from June 1 through September 19.  The Opening Reception is June 1, from 2:00-4:00. I'll be there, so stop in if you're near Rocky Mount on June 1.

I'll post more about the show, complete with installation images, after the reception, but The Imperial Centre there is so spacious and beautiful, and the people who work there couldn't be nicer.  I love Rocky Mount and so happy to have my work in their 57th annual show!

So after dropping off the work, I walked around town-- check out the BelAir Artisans, on Church Street, if you're ever in downtown Rocky Mount-- and took a few pictures with my cell-phone.  Here's one of them.
